How We Got Started
The Houston Maharashtra Mandal (HMM) is a group formed by Marathi speaking people of Maharashtra, India; now residing in Houston, Texas. HMM was organized as a non-profit organization under the Texas Non-Profit Corporation Act of September 2, 1980. HMM was established in 1976. At that time there were approximately 60 Maharashtrian families living in Houston. They successfully celebrated festivals such as Sankrant, Gudhi Padwa, Ganeshotsav, and Diwali.
HMM was honored as Host for BMM convention in 1995 that was attended by more than 2700 Maharastrians from North America and Canada.
Our Mission
Mandal is committed to educate and create awareness among the mainstream community about Maharashtrian and Indian culture and undertake various activities and promote various cultural events such as literature, arts, health, religion, and other liberal humanities. The Mandal shall work to promote goodwill, understanding and appreciation of the culture of India, specifically of the State of Maharashtra among all.
Our Programs
HMM cultural division team is committed to bring variety of cultural programs from local and/ or artists from India through out the year. The team works hard to include maximum involvement from community to make it a success. HMM team is always open to suggestions and responds to feedback from community, making program better every year.
Festivals
HMM celebrates major festivals with Houstonian family and friend. The celebration includes MakarSankrant, Holi, Gudhi Padwa, Ganesh chaturthi, Diwali. These events are perfect stage for local talents.
Entertainment
HMM presents variety of entertainment program from North America community as well as artists from India. Drama, Music performances and movies launch are regular features of HMM program through out the year.
Community Events
It is our commitment to not only enjoy together but also help the community grow together. HMM provides platform for interaction, tap and develop skills through community workshops e. g. star gazing, Salsa, modak ( cooking), Abhiwachan.
